Rome, Assisi & Lourdes from $2400

Rome has long been a place of pilgrimage for Christians as it is home to the Vatican City and has many beautiful churches, cathedrals and monasteries. There are also culturally important catacombs and crypts that you can discover near Rome on a guided tour that gives you exclusive access. From Rome you can easily visit Assisi as part of a day tour or overnight trip. Assisi’s history is dominated by the unpretentious figure of St Francis (San Francesco), whose followers filled the little town with churches, monasteries and shrines, including making it a particularly desirable place to visit. Next, you can visit Lourdes, which is the largest pilgrimage site in France. It is a site of numerous miraculous healings and here you can visit the Sanctuary of Lourdes (the Domain), which includes the Grotto.

  • 4 nights in Rome: here you can enjoy a Vatican Museums tour and a tour of Rome’s catacombs and crypts
  • Day trip from Rome to Assisi, with the option of an overnight stay
  • 3 nights in Lourdes: choose from a wide range of accommodation to suit your budget and enjoy a day trip to the Domain

Fatima, Camino de Santiago & Lourdes from $2999

Fatima in Portugal is well known as one of the most religiously significant cities in Europe and is home to the Chapel of the Apparitions, which is built on the site of a Marian apparition that appeared before three children in May and October 1917. The city is a wonderful place to visit on the anniversaries of the apparitions as part of a European pilgrimage. Meanwhile, Camino de Santiago (the Way of St James) in Northern Spain is one of the oldest pilgrimage routes in the world. Here you can admire the cathedral of Santiago de Compostela or pay homage at the burial site of St James.

  • 3 nights in Fatima: choose from 3 or 4 star accommodation
  • 3 nights in A Coruña: choose from 3 or 4 star accommodation
  • Day trip to Camino de Santiago: note that accommodation along Camino de Santiago is basic but if you wish to stay at a monastery, this can be arranged and you should make a donation of your choosing directly to the monastery – note that a special religious passport is required to stay at the monastery (a Credencial)
  • 3 nights in Lourdes: choose from a wide range of accommodation to suit your budget and enjoy a day trip to the Domain

Altötting & Czestochowa from $2700

Altötting in Bavaria (Germany) has been an important place of worship for more than 500 years and more than a million pilgrims visit the Chapel of Grace each year, which houses a statue of the Black Madonna, where the miraculous healing of child was noted to have taken place. Here you’ll also find the Collegiate Church, the Neo-Baroque St Anna’s Basilica and Chapel Square, where Pope Benedikt XVI celebrated Mass in 2006. A pilgrimage to Germany combines well with a visit to Czestochowa in Poland, which has a shrine to the Black Madonna at Jasna Gora Monastery, which symbolizes the determination of the Polish nation to preserve their Christian heritage.

  • 4 nights in Altötting: we recommend visiting between May and October, when candlelight processions take place from St Anna’s to the square
  • 4 nights in Czestochowa: enjoy a guided tour to the Jasna Gora Monastery, which also includes a visit to the Basilica and the 600th Anniversary Museum

Northern Ireland from $1499

If you would like to visit the UK on a Christian pilgrimage then we recommend Armagh in Northern Ireland. Although the town’s roots are in Celtic paganism, Christianity spread throughout the region in 400 AD and there are several celebrated religious points of interest, such as St Patrick’s cathedrals (there are both Roman Catholic and Anglican cathedrals in the town) and St Patrick’s Trian, which displays some of the writings by St Patrick. There are also several pretty parks and gardens to enjoy, such as Clare Glen and the Armagh Observatory, as well as manor houses and palaces, including The Palace Demesne Public Park, The Mall, The Argory and Ardress House.

  • 5 nights in Armagh: choose from city center hotels or cozy country lodges
  • Armagh guided day tour, including sites of religious significance
  • Day trip to Ardress House or The Argory

Optional day trips can also be arranged to other locations in Northern Ireland, Ireland or the UK.
